Inspire, Educate and Empower
At Holy Trinity, we believe that every child can succeed in Mathematics. Our comprehensive mathematics program runs for five hours each week, focusing on developing confident, creative problem-solvers who can apply mathematical thinking to everyday situations. Following the Victorian Curriculum, we cover three key content areas—Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability—while building proficiency in understanding, fluency, problem solving and reasoning. Through our evidence-based explicit teaching approach, students engage in structured daily lessons that include number fluency practice, clear learning intentions, regular checks for understanding and tasks designed to practise skills and extend their thinking. We foster a supportive classroom environment where students learn to take risks, learn from mistakes and work both independently and collaboratively.
Our Mathematics program is tailored to meet each child’s individual learning needs through ongoing assessment and differentiation. Teachers use a combination of diagnostic, formative and summative assessments—including pre and post-testing, online interviews and standardised tests like NAPLAN and PAT—to identify students’ current levels and plan targeted instruction. Students benefit from access to quality resources, digital learning and hands-on mathematical equipment.
We provide intervention and extension support in partnership with our Learning Diversity team, ensuring that all students can develop an appreciation and enjoyment of mathematics while making meaningful connections to real-life situations and other curriculum areas.
