The Wantirna South Campus of St Mary’s College for the Deaf is located alongside Holy Trinity Primary School, offering enrolment for students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing from Foundation to Grade 6. The St Mary’s College students are integrated into Holy Trinity classes and this model of inclusion provides access to all learning areas including an outstanding Literacy program, Maths, Religious Education, ICT, Physical Education, Italian and the Arts. Additionally, classroom acoustics are enhanced through the use of Phonak Soundfield Technology in all learning spaces and assembly areas.
St Mary’s College students are warmly included and are valued members of the Holy Trinity Primary School community, participating in all co-curricular functions such as school camps and excursions, concerts, art exhibitions and sporting events. St Mary’s College students wear the same uniform as our students; play in the same playground and share activities and friendships with our students. Our students also have the opportunity to learn Auslan (Australian Sign Language) and gain an understanding of the Deaf Community through an optional lunchtime Auslan Club. This encourages, in all students, a sense of tolerance, understanding and empathy as they learn to accept and respect differences.
